Video-Conference Presentation

JimNed Dec 2001

December, 2001

The 4th graders at Jim Ned Elementary in Buffalo Gap, Texas enjoyed visiting with this group on December 4, 2001. The video conference included (left to right) Stacy Jones of the Texas Aggie football team, Dr. Leonard Pike, Jima Jordan and Lori Polk. Mrs. Garner's fourth science class enjoyed asking Stacy about his football activities and his favorite foods. The 4th grade students were enthusiastic about meeting Dr. Pike. They had lots of questions about the maroon 'BetaSweet' carrot, science experiments and new varieties of vegetables. Jima and Lori told the students about Texas A&M traditions and gave a demonstration about phytochemicals. Many thanks to Tommy Bearden for his help in setting up this conference.

April, 2002

Rule ISD connected with the VICkids program on April 5, 2002. The 8th grade health class visited with Stacy Jones (not in picture), back row, Heather Williams, Julie Smart, seated, Rhonda Rahn and Lori Polk. Mrs. Teichelman's students were very interested in the eating habits and favorite foods of Stacy and Heather, members of the Texas Aggie football and soccer teams, respectively. Rhonda Rahn presented information about good nutrition and how to choose a healthy lunch from a convenience store. Julie and Lori demonstrated a quick and simple salad packed with phytochemicals. Thanks Amy Tanner for your help.

Stacy answered questions about the best vegetables to eat to be healthy. Dr. King described the research he does to create new varieties of fruits and vegetables. Lori and Julie explained the health benefits of a rainbow fruit salad. Amy Tanner is the distance education coordinator and a great organizer.

November 2002

The 8th grade health class at Rule ISD participated in a video conference on November 1. Mr. Reed's class had a presentation by Lori and Julie about phytochemicals and a rainbow salad to include in their 5 to 9 a day. "Cindy Scientist" Warren explained the benefits of choosing fruits and vegetables. She demonstrated how to substitute cheese sticks, nuts, and 100% fruit juice for junk food when shopping for their lunch. Thanks Rule ISD for inviting us to your location.
